India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada began a two-day visit to Morocco on Monday for talks aimed at expanding trade, investment, and industrial cooperation, according to India’s state Press Information Bureau (PIB).
Prasada will co-chair the seventh India-Morocco Joint Commission with Morocco’s Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Omar Hejira during the Aug. 24-25 visit.
Officials will discuss trade and market access, fertilizer production and supply, investment, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, mining, renewable energy, digital transformation, and logistics.
The countries also plan to sign a memorandum of understanding between Morocco’s National Office of Food Safety and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India covering food testing, import procedures, quality control operations, and the exchange of food safety information.
Bilateral trade in goods reached about $4 billion in India’s 2025-26 fiscal year, according to the Indian government. India’s main exports to Morocco include petroleum products, vehicles, pharmaceuticals, textiles, chemicals, machinery, and spices.
Morocco exports phosphates and fertilizers to India.
Prasada will also meet with Moroccan officials and business leaders and attend the India-Morocco Joint Business Forum, with discussions focused on new investment and joint venture opportunities.
The visit comes as India and Morocco prepare to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
