Morocco has put forward Nabil Ayouch’s film “Everybody Loves Touda” for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category at the upcoming 97th Academy Awards. This submission highlights Moroccan Aita music, delving into the traditional art of Cheikhat through the narrative of Touda, a character portrayed by Nisrine Erradi.
This marks Morocco’s 20th entry for the Oscars since it first participated in 1977. While the nation has yet to secure a nomination in this category, previous entries such as “The Blue Caftan” by Maryam Touzani and “The Mother of All Lies” by Asmae El Moudir both made the shortlist of 15 films in December for the years 2022 and 2023. The continued recognition of Moroccan cinema at international awards showcases the vibrant cultural storytelling that these filmmakers bring to the global stage.
