Coldplay has once again proven their ability to drive major tourism interest, this time in Abu Dhabi. The band recently announced their only Middle Eastern concert for January 11 as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, prompting such high demand that they quickly added two additional shows. The event will take place at Zayed Sports City Stadium.
As expected, hotel prices in the area have skyrocketed in response to the influx of fans. A local publication noted that many nearby hotels, including Millennium Al Rawdah Hotel and The Ritz-Carlton, are already fully booked for the concert dates.
One hotel, the Premier Inn Abu Dhabi Capital Center, still has rooms available, but at a steep rate of 1,148 Emirati Dirhams (approximately $312) per night, a significant jump from just 230 Emirati Dirhams ($63) the previous weekend. Other options, like the Aloft Abu Dhabi, are also experiencing price surges, with rates climbing to 1,665 Emirati Dirhams ($453) for the night after the concert.
The UAE has been aggressively attracting major acts to perform, continuing its trend of hosting big-name artists. Previous performances from stars like Post Malone and upcoming shows with Kasabian and Lionel Richie have kept concert-goers excited. However, some artists have previously canceled performances in the region due to concerns over human rights issues.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Tourism Authority has expressed interest in securing a concert from Taylor Swift, emphasizing the necessity for regional collaboration to make it happen. The region is working on a unified travel permit to facilitate easier access to concerts and events across multiple countries.
With Coldplay’s concert gearing up to be a major event, fans are eagerly preparing for a weekend of music and excitement in Abu Dhabi.
