The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is currently holding a regional workshop in Lagos from October 8 to 11 to review and finalize the Host Government Agreement (HGA) for the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline project.
This workshop is a significant milestone in the development of the gas pipeline, a strategic initiative launched by King Mohammed VI of Morocco and former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, with continued support from current President Bola Tinubu. The event follows prior negotiations on the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) and HGA that took place in Rabat, Marrakech, and Abidjan.
Organized collaboratively by the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the workshop gathers experts from ministry departments and national oil companies from the 13 nations that will host the pipeline.
The goal of this meeting is to finalize the draft HGA, which is set to be signed by each participating country and the project company. An ONHYM representative emphasized that the attendance of experts and representatives from all transit nations reaffirms their dedication to this crucial project. This initiative is a testament to the importance of South-South cooperation and is expected to drive economic and social growth by enhancing industries throughout the region.
