The 2025 Global Road Safety Film Festival was officially launched on Monday in Marrakech, ahead of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, aiming to mobilize the international community around road safety issues through cinema.
Organized by the Laser International Foundation in partnership with Morocco’s National Road Safety Agency (NARSA), La Prévention Routière Internationale (International Road Safety), and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (International Automobile Federation – FIA), the event brings together UN representatives, policymakers, economic actors, film and media professionals, as well as young people engaged in prevention initiatives.
With productions from more than 64 countries, the festival showcases the diversity of approaches to awareness-raising while conveying a universal message focused on the need for collective commitment to safer roads.
On this occasion, Awa Sar, a member of the festival jury, told MAP that this event serves as an exceptional platform to remind the world that road safety is a global issue that transcends borders.
“Seeing so many countries competing demonstrates the international mobilization around this cause. Each film tells a poignant story that resonates and calls for action. We need peace and safety on our roads, and these productions bring us a step closer to this shared goal,” she said.
She further added that the 2025 edition of the festival focuses on several key areas, including promoting a road safety culture across all five continents, mobilizing public and private actors, education and training, and contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in health, infrastructure, and sustainable cities.
She also highlighted that this commitment aligns with the objective of reducing road traffic fatalities by 50% by 2030, in line with the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021-2030).
