Alaska Airlines is recovering from a major IT outage that brought its operation to a standstill Thursday night. The problem forced hundreds of flight cancellations and the postponement of its third-quarter earnings call with Wall Street analysts.
The Seattle-based carrier confirmed that a “failure at our primary data center” triggered a system-wide ground stop for both Alaska and Horizon Air flights beginning around 3:30 p.m. PT on October 23. Flights at Hawaiian Airlines, which Alaska acquired last year, are unaffected.
The disruption halted operations across the network for several hours before the restriction was lifted at 11:30 p.m. PT.
