The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) celebrated Morocco, Portugal, and Spain being officially named co-hosts of the 2030 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday after the FIFA Congress videoconference decision, at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, near Rabat.
FRMF Vice President Mohamed Joudar highlighted Morocco’s long-standing efforts to secure the hosting rights for the world’s premier football tournament.
“The privilege of hosting the 2030 World Cup is the result of Morocco’s sports policies, led by King Mohammed VI, and investments in infrastructure and sports training,” Joudar told the media.
Noureddine Naybet, an ambassador for the 2030 World Cup and former captain of Morocco’s national team, commended Morocco’s hard work over the years. “This day will remain historic for the three host nations and all of Africa and Europe,” he said.
Senegalese football legend El-Hadji Diouf described the tournament as a significant honor for Morocco and the entire African continent.
He also thanked King Mohammed VI for his constant commitment to development and sports in Africa.
Jorge Vilda, coach of Morocco’s women’s national football team and former World Cup-winning coach of Spain’s women’s team, commended the FRMF’s efforts in advancing football in Morocco.
Several officials, sports figures, former Moroccan and African football legends, and members of the FRMF attended the ceremony.
