Iberdrola Spain has launched the seventh edition of the Iberdrola Supera Awards, with the aim of recognising and promoting Spanish projects aligned with gender equality through sport.
The deadline for submitting nominations is now open until June, and the main new feature this year is the introduction of two new categories:
- Supera Health and Wellbeing, to recognise and promote initiatives that, through sport, improve people’s health and wellbeing, whether through exercise, nutrition or mental health programmes.
- Supera Veterans, which will recognise activities, projects and/or programmes that stand out for promoting sport among adult women, encouraging them to continue competing and enhancing their performance in an environment suited to their age.
The two new categories are added to the six already featured in the Iberdrola Supera Awards.
- Supera Base, which recognises initiatives that promote grassroots sport among girls up to the age of 16.
- Supera Competition, which recognises initiatives that encourage the participation of women (aged 16 and over) in competitive sport.
- Supera Social, which recognises initiatives that promote the integration of women at risk of social exclusion through sport.
- Supera Inclusion, which highlights exemplary projects for the participation of people with disabilities in sport.
- Supera Outreach, which honours initiatives that convey the importance of women’s role in sport and publicise the achievements of our female athletes.
- Supera Rural Promotion, which rewards initiatives that encourage girls or women to take part in sport in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
The projects submitted will be assessed by a jury of honour comprising leading figures from the worlds of sport and the media, such as Carolina Marín, Teresa Perales, Iker Casillas, Sandra Sánchez, Ona Carbonell, Susanna Griso and Alexia Putellas. Each of the aforementioned categories will be awarded €50,000, making a total of €400,000, as officially announced by Iberdrola.
In its sixth edition, the Iberdrola Supera Awards matched the record number of entries previously set in 2024, with 1,300. In total, since the first awards in 2020, the company has received more than 5,300 projects.
Iberdrola Spain: supporting sport and women’s equality
Since 2016, Iberdrola Spain has been the main driving force behind women’s sport in Spain, with the aim of promoting gender equality.
It currently supports, through its sponsorship, 35 national federations and lends its name to over 100 competitions. Through its commitment over the past decade, it has helped increase the number of female members of these federations by more than 80%, reaching nearly 820,000.
The Spanish company’s support also extends to Paralympic sport. Since its inception in 2005, it has collaborated with the Spanish Paralympic Committee’s (CPE) Support Plan for Paralympic Sport (ADOP) with the aim of providing our athletes with the best conditions for their preparation and participation in top-level competitions
