Jawad Ziyat was elected president of Raja Casablanca on Monday night during a general assembly held at a Casablanca hotel. He defeated interim president Abdellah Birouine and former president Saïd Hasbane in two voting rounds, securing 91 votes to Birouine’s 43.
At 58, Ziyat returns to lead the club after a previous term from 2018 to 2020, during which Raja won the CAF Confederation Cup, the CAF Super Cup, and the Moroccan league title.
The meeting was marked by heated criticism from members regarding last season’s performance, with many calling the club’s management “catastrophic.” Raja finished fifth in the domestic league, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Throne Cup, and failed to advance past the group stage in the CAF Champions League.
Ziyat now faces the challenge of rebuilding a struggling club, both competitively and financially, and restoring fan confidence.
