The Moroccan Embassy in Qatar hosted a diplomatic reception to mark the 26th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne, drawing high-level Qatari officials, diplomats, and members of the Moroccan community.
The event was attended by Qatar’s Minister of Labour Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, and several ambassadors and dignitaries, including the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed of Eritrea.
In his keynote speech, Moroccan Ambassador to Qatar Mohamed Setri described the occasion as a moment of reflection on the Kingdom’s achievements and a celebration of the “deep-rooted historical ties” between Qatar and Morocco.
“Relations between the two brotherly countries have witnessed remarkable
development across various sectors, driven by deep-rooted historical ties based on
mutual appreciation, respect, fruitful cooperation and effective solidarity,” the ambassador said.
Ambassador Setri highlighted the recent phone call made by King Mohammed VI to Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani following the missile attack by Iran on the Al Udeid airbase in Qatar.
The Moroccan ambassador stated that “His Majesty affirmed the Kingdom’s solidarity strongly condemning the attack and expressing his categorical rejection of any aggression that threatens the security and
peace of the brotherly State of Qatar”.
The ambassador also praised Qatar’s continued support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces. “The Kingdom of Morocco commends and cherishes Qatar’s position
in support of the Moroccaness of the Sahara and the territorial integrity of the
Kingdom of Morocco and its sovereignty over its Southern Provinces.”
Economic growth and cultural diplomacy were central to the remarks. Ambassador Setri pointed to the Kingdom’s development in key sectors, citing record-breaking tourism numbers, industrial advancements, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
“In 2024, it attracted 17.4 million tourists, an increase of 20% compared to 2023,
making the Kingdom the top tourist destination in Africa,” he said. “It maintained its leading position in the automotive industry in Africa, with a capacity of one million cars per year, including electric cars. Indeed, the automotive industry is the Kingdom’s leading export sector generating more than $13 billion last year.”

On the cultural front, the ambassador praised the success of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture, which featured dozens of public events, including a traditional Moroccan caftan show, equestrian performances, and the widely acclaimed Splendours of the Atlas exhibition, offering audiences a unique glimpse into the Kingdom’s civilisation and authentic heritage spanning over 12 centuries.
The ambassador concluded by acknowledging the role of Moroccan expatriates in enhancing ties between the two nations: “I would like to commend their high patriotic spirit and their contribution to strengthening the fraternal ties between the two brotherly countries, as well as their involvement in the development and progress witnessed by the sisterly State of Qatar.”
The celebration concluded with traditional Moroccan hospitality, as guests enjoyed a showcase of the Kingdom’s cultural identity.
