UAE petrol price August 2026: up AED 0.20 per litre on every grade, giving back part of July’s big cut. Special 95 is now AED 3.49 per litre (from AED 3.29 in July), Super 98 is AED 3.60, E-Plus 91 is AED 3.41, and diesel is AED 3.80 (from AED 3.60). For a 60-litre tank of Special 95, that is roughly AED 12 more per fill-up than July, but still around AED 20 less than June’s peak.
The UAE Fuel Price Committee raised petrol and diesel rates for August 2026, effective 1 August. After July delivered the biggest single-month drop of the year, August takes back about a third of it. If you filled up cheap through July, the pump receipt just crept up again, though it remains well below the June peak.
How much is petrol in the UAE in August 2026?
These rates took effect on 1 August 2026 and hold across all seven emirates until the next monthly review:
| Fuel grade | August 2026 | July 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super 98 | AED 3.60 | AED 3.40 | up AED 0.20 |
| Special 95 | AED 3.49 | AED 3.29 | up AED 0.20 |
| E-Plus 91 | AED 3.41 | AED 3.21 | up AED 0.20 |
| Diesel | AED 3.80 | AED 3.60 | up AED 0.20 |
Petrol is up about 6 percent month on month and diesel about 5.5 percent. Every grade rose by the same AED 0.20, a uniform move that points at the crude market rather than anything grade-specific.
Why did petrol prices go up in August 2026?
UAE fuel prices track global oil markets, which the Fuel Price Committee reviews at the start of each month. July’s cut reflected soft crude in June; through July the market firmed again, and August’s pump rates follow it with the usual one-month lag. Here is how the year has run:
| Month | Special 95 | Diesel |
|---|---|---|
| January 2026 | AED 2.42 | AED 2.55 |
| February 2026 | AED 2.33 | AED 2.52 |
| March 2026 | AED 2.48 | AED 2.72 |
| April 2026 | AED 3.28 | AED 4.69 |
| May 2026 | AED 3.55 | AED 4.69 |
| June 2026 | AED 3.83 | AED 4.33 |
| July 2026 | AED 3.29 | AED 3.60 |
| August 2026 | AED 3.49 | AED 3.80 |
The shape of the year so far: cheap through February, a supply-driven spike from April to a June peak, July’s sharp correction, and now a partial rebound. Special 95 at AED 3.49 sits about 9 percent below June’s high but still well above the AED 2.33 of February.
What the August rise costs you at the pump
On Special 95, the numbers are easy to feel:
- A 60-litre fill-up now costs about AED 209, against roughly AED 197 in July. That is around AED 12 more each time you fill.
- Over a month of typical use (about four fills, 240 litres), the rise adds close to AED 48 versus July.
- A larger SUV on a 90-litre tank pays about AED 18 more per fill.
Diesel moves the same way: the AED 0.20 rise adds about AED 12 to a 60-litre fill. As always, the 5 percent VAT is already included in the pump price.
What renters actually ask at handover
Our rentals team hears the same three questions at handover no matter which way the price moved.
“What will a full tank cost me?” At August rates, filling a typical 60-litre sedan with Special 95 comes to about AED 209. A 90-litre SUV tank is roughly AED 314. Both are up a little on July but still comfortably below the June-level fills of AED 230 and AED 345.
“How far will that tank take me?” That depends on the car far more than on the month. Multiply the tank size by the car’s real-world kilometres per litre, and remember that August heat works against you: air conditioning and idling in traffic eat range faster than any AED 0.20 move does.
“Do I have to bring it back full?” That is the rental company’s fuel policy, not the pump price, so check the fuel line on your agreement before you drive off. Collected full means returned full; refuelling charges added afterwards usually cost more than filling it yourself.
What it means if you rent or buy a car
Fuel is one of the biggest running costs of owning a car, and a rebound month is a useful reality check on both decisions.
If you rent: nothing about August changes the sensible playbook. Customers still choose on rental price, space and comfort first, and fuel economy only starts deciding the pick on long road trips or rentals that run into weeks or months. An extra AED 12 a fill will not change a weekend plan; on a month-long rental doing serious kilometres, an efficient model earns its keep.
If you are buying used: August is a reminder that July’s cheap month was not a new normal. Budget the fuel line on the year’s average, not the best month. If the spring spike had you eyeing hybrids and fuel-sippers, that logic still holds on high mileage; on low mileage the grade and model barely move your total. Our guides to used cars under AED 100,000 and GCC vs non-GCC spec are the practical places to start.
The honest read: a single month’s move, in either direction, should not decide a car purchase. Buy for the car and your real usage, and treat fuel as the monthly variable it clearly is this year.
Frequently asked questions
What is the petrol price in the UAE right now?
As of August 2026, Special 95 is AED 3.49 per litre, Super 98 is AED 3.60, E-Plus 91 is AED 3.41, and diesel is AED 3.80. These are the same across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the other emirates.
Did petrol prices go up or down in August 2026?
Up. Every grade rose by AED 0.20 per litre compared with July, about 6 percent for petrol and 5.5 percent for diesel, taking back roughly a third of July’s cut.
When do UAE petrol prices change?
The UAE Fuel Price Committee sets rates at the start of each month, and they stay fixed until the next review. So the August rates hold until the September announcement.
Is it cheaper to fill up in Dubai or Abu Dhabi?
Neither. UAE fuel prices are set nationally each month, so a litre of Special 95 costs the same in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and every other emirate. What changes your total is the grade: on a 60-litre fill, Super 98 costs about AED 6.60 more than Special 95 at August rates.
Is diesel more expensive than petrol in August 2026?
Yes. Diesel is AED 3.80 per litre against AED 3.49 for Special 95, a gap of AED 0.31, and both moved up by the same AED 0.20 this month.
Should the August rise change whether I rent or buy?
Not on its own. This year has already shown swings in both directions inside a single quarter. Decide on the car and your usage first, then factor fuel as a running cost either way.
