Nasser Bourita reiterated on Wednesday Morocco’s support for Mali’s stability, sovereignty and national unity, stressing that “Mali’s stability is essential to regional stability.”
Bourita condemned the recent terrorist attacks targeting both civilian and military sites in Mali, describing them as unacceptable and noting that they caused numerous casualties, including among civilians.
He also pointed to what he described as a clear link between separatism and terrorism, warning that the alliance poses a serious threat to regional stability and represents a fundamental risk for Mali.
“There is clear connivance between separatism and terrorism,” Bourita said, warning that such cooperation undermines both national security and broader regional peace.
He said the Sahel region is going through a highly critical phase in its contemporary history and called on all directly concerned regional and international actors to take action to break what he described as this dangerous alliance.
The foreign minister stressed the need for stronger intervention and coordinated efforts to confront the security challenges facing the region.
He also called for policies aimed at restoring stability while respecting the choices of local populations.
Bourita said regional relations should be built on cooperation and mutual respect rather than intimidation or political blackmail, emphasizing that sustainable peace in the Sahel depends on trust and long-term partnership.
