Morocco’s Refereeing Technical Directorate (DTNA) suspended five referees on Tuesday following Raja Casablanca’s (RCA) 2-0 win on Sunday over Ittihad of Tangier (IRT) in the 13th round of Botola Pro, SNRT reported.
Principal Referee Nawfal Nachit will miss five matches. Video Assistant Referee Abderrahime Arrakhiz received a four-match suspension. Assistant VAR Referee Bouazza Iken, First Assistant Referee Abderrazak Moutamani, and Second Assistant Referee Mostafa Abikhar each will sit out three matches.
Raja Casablanca had formally challenged the refereeing decision on Monday, according to a statement by the club published on its social media accounts.
The club sent an official letter to DTNA regarding a controversial play that happened during the match, mainly during the second half of the game.
Raja argued that an offside call was incorrect based on available technical data. The team also said a challenge in the penalty area should have resulted in a penalty in its favor.
The club requested detailed explanations and access to technical data related to the incident, citing established procedural rules for refereeing institutions. While Raja reiterated its respect for refereeing bodies, it asserted its right to defend its interests under the current rules.
DTNA said it took the disciplinary action to ensure that the rules of the game are followed to the letter. It said the move is also intended to ensure transparency and integrity in the management of national competitions.
Raja now ranks fourth with 23 points, level with Wydad, COD Meknes, and MAS Fes. Ittihad of Tangier ranks 11th with ten points.
