Morocco signed four major investment agreements with companies from the Catalonia region of Spain worth MAD 500 million (approximately USD 48 million). The deals were formalized during a meeting in Rabat on Wednesday and are expected to create more than 700 direct jobs in the Moroccan cities of Tangier, Tetouan, and Kenitra.
The agreements involve investments in key sectors such as the automotive industry, waste recycling, packaging manufacturing, and construction materials. The initiatives reflect Morocco’s growing success in turning international trade relationships into real, job-creating economic projects.
The Catalan business delegation was led by Josep Sánchez Llibre, President of Foment del Treball, the largest business association in Catalonia. Llibre met with Moroccan Minister Delegate for Investment, Karim Zidan, as part of efforts to boost economic ties between Morocco and Spain.
Minister Zidan explained that Morocco is becoming a leading investment hub in the region, thanks to recent reforms that have made it easier for companies to do business. These include simplifying administrative procedures, digitizing processes, and strengthening the role of regional investment centers.
Sánchez Llibre said the Catalan companies were impressed with Morocco’s investment opportunities and plan to increase their involvement. He announced that another business delegation of around 20 Catalan firms will return within a year to explore further opportunities.
Spain’s ambassador to Morocco, Enrique Ojeda Vila, praised the agreements as a sign of the growing bilateral economic partnership. He highlighted their shared goals and close economic links.
Adil Rais, Head of the Moroccan-Spanish Economic Council, said the deals demonstrate the strong commitment on both sides to building deeper ties in trade and investment. He added that the council is working to make Spain Morocco’s top foreign investor.
These agreements come on the heels of promotional events under the “Morocco Now” campaign held in Barcelona in January 2024 and Madrid in April 2025. The Catalan business group also visited Morocco for the first time in June 2024.
This latest development signals stronger economic cooperation between Morocco and Spain, driven by shared goals for sustainable development and strategic collaboration between businesses in both countries.
