Morocco’s tax revenue increased by MAD 10.4 billion ($1.14 billion) through April 30, up 8.5% compared with the same period in 2025, Minister Delegate for the Budget Fouzi Lekjaa told lawmakers Tuesday during a session at the House of Councillors in Rabat, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
Lekjaa said the government achieved 36.3% of its 2026 Finance Law revenue targets by the end of April, driven mainly by corporate tax revenue, which rose by MAD 9.1 billion, or 25% year-on-year. Income tax revenue increased by MAD 1 billion, while value-added tax revenue climbed by MAD 1.3 billion, a 4% increase.
The minister also reported a MAD 1 billion rise in registration and stamp duties and an MAD 854 million increase in domestic consumption taxes, saying the figures reflected sustained domestic consumption growth of 7.4%.
On public spending, Lekjaa said the government continues implementing the 2026 Finance Law as projected despite additional costs linked to global economic pressures.
Morocco spends MAD 600 million each month to subsidize butane gas prices, MAD 650 million to stabilize transport costs, and MAD 300 million to maintain electricity prices, with electricity support alone expected to reach MAD 3 billion this year.
Lekjaa added that Morocco aims to reduce its budget deficit to 3% of GDP by the end of 2026, while public debt continues its downward trend toward 66% of GDP. He also said the International Monetary Fund recently confirmed Morocco meets the conditions to renew its flexible credit line due to the strength of its macroeconomic policies.
