Budget travel becomes more and more popular. We try to save money on transport, accommodation and food. Here is a list of delicious Moroccan foods that won’t be painful for your wallet and will fill up your stomach. Both, vegetarians and meat eaters will find something for themselves! There are also some propositions for vegans. If you’re backpacking Morocco – read on!

Bissara – a thick soup (or rather a dip) made from wide beans, olive oil and spices. Very popular in the north, but eaten everywhere in Morocco. My recipe for bissara is here.

Price: 5 MAD in local places, up to 20 MAD in tourist places

Msmen– a thick, layered pancake that you can eat with cream cheese, jam, amlou or honey. Perfect morning stomach filler.

Price: generally around 2 MAD, up to 7 MAD depending on the stuffing you want.
