Qatar marked National Sports Day with nationwide fitness events, drawing broad public and leadership participation to promote active living.
From the early hours of the morning, Qatar is marking National Sports Day with sporting events and wellness activities aimed at encouraging people of all ages to adopt healthier lifestyles.
This year’s theme, “I Choose Sport”, focuses on making fitness a conscious, everyday choice rather than a one-off activity.
Across Doha, Lusail and Education City, public spaces are filling with families, athletes and community groups taking part in activities centred on health and wellbeing.
At Lusail Boulevard, the Qatar Olympic Committee organised a half-marathon, bringing together elite runners and amateur participants across 21km, 10km and shorter distances. The route extended towards the Qetaifan Islands Corniche before finishing back at Lusail.
Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani opened the marathon, which drew a large early morning turnout.
In central Doha, Al Bidda Park is hosting a wide range of sports and fitness activities. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani toured the site and joined members of the public taking part.
At Education City Stadium, celebrations took on a festive atmosphere with the Education City Colour Run, featuring music, vibrant colours and hydration stations, alongside races tailored to different age groups.
Sheikha Moza bint Nasser took part in activities at the venue, accompanied by Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, as they engaged with runners and families.
Across Aspire Zone, children, families and adults joined fitness classes and recreational and competitive sports, creating an inclusive environment aligned with the day’s focus on active living.
Security and military institutions also marked the occasion. The Ministry of Interior Qatar and the Internal Security Force, Lekhwiya, hosted sports activities at Stadium 974, attended by Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.
Meanwhile, the Amiri Guard organised sports activities at the Barzan camp, with senior commanders and personnel taking part in morning events.
Community activities continued across The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan Islands, where residents participated in fitness sessions, interactive games and family-friendly sports throughout the day. Children joined recreational activities, while older participants took part in basketball, football and archery, supported by on-site health and safety services.
As Qatar marks National Sports Day, widespread participation across institutions, neighbourhoods and public spaces has reinforced the message behind this year’s theme, with leaders and communities coming together to promote active living and wellbeing.
